Consultant Psychiatrist Professor Regi Alexander was invited to deliver the prestigious Joze Jancar Lecture 2025 at the annual conference of Psychiatry of Intellectual Disability Faculty of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, held in Leicester on 7 October 2025. The lecture was chaired by Dr Jana deVilliers, Consultant Psychiatrist and Chair of the Intellectual Disability Faculty of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in Scotland. Reflecting on his 30 years as a psychiatrist in the UK, Professor Alexander traced the evolution of the intellectual disability faculty, shared the main highlights and reflected on ways forward. The talk ended with a powerful restatement of the centrality of medical training and the imperative to protect it to preserve the relationship of trust between doctor and patient.
